about us
Losing track is stressful. Keeping track shouldn’t be.
We’re a South African team building tracking technology for the things – and the pets – people worry about losing.
Horizen started with a simple frustration and a genuine passion. Theft is annoying, inconvenient, and weirdly hard to guard against – the moment your property or your pet leaves your sight, most of us have no way of knowing where it’s gone. We think people should be able to track their own things, simply and cost-effectively.
So we built that. And because we answer to our customers rather than to investors, they’re the only people we have to keep happy. Message us, and you’ll get an answer straight away, with a real person close behind whenever you need one – not a ticket in a queue.

Proudly South African, built for real conditions.
We work from Mbombela, close to the outdoor, leisure and farming communities whose vehicles and gear shaped ShadowGuard – the bakkies, motorbikes, trailers, generators and camera equipment that South Africans actually lose, and that the big vehicle-tracking companies wanted a three-year contract to cover. Their farm dogs and roaming cats shaped RoamFree.
Being close to that helps us do something most tracker sellers don’t: we pay attention to how theft actually works in SA. Where things get taken, how, and why they so rarely come back. The more we understand that, the better we build.
Our trackers run on Vodacom’s NB-IoT network, chosen because it reaches into exactly the low-signal places – inside buildings, out in the rural areas – where ordinary trackers go quiet and where stolen things and wandering pets tend to end up.

Built on what customers actually asked for.
Every part of our trackers traces back to something real customers told us they needed. ShadowGuard is small enough to hide, tough enough to leave outside, and sleeps while your vehicle is parked – so it’s ready the moment something moves, and you can wire it into a car and forget about charging it altogether. RoamFree is small enough for a cat, waterproof, and rests while your pet is home. We didn’t design them in a boardroom – we shaped them, and keep shaping them, around how people actually protect what matters to them.

Why Horizen?
One small running cost. No surprises.
Most trackers hide the real cost – bundled into a monthly subscription, or buried in “bring your own SIM” complexity you only understand after you’ve bought.
Connectivity is the one real running cost of any cellular tracker, so it’s the only thing you pay for – R20/month after your first free year, no contract, cancel anytime. The platform, the alerts and your route history stay free for life.
